LS-DYNA Kompakt: Modeling Metallic Materials

Plenty of material models are available in LS-DYNA for describing the mechanical behavior of metallic materials. However, a profound understanding of the adopted material model is crucial for obtaining reasonable and reliable FE simulation results.

The aim of this class is to give a short version of the original full 2-day seminar in Stuttgart. Therefore, we will on the first day concentrate on three isotropic material models very often used in the industry: *MAT_024, *MAT_081 and *MAT_251. In particular, the handling of material curves (including LS-DYNA internal rediscretization rules), the different approaches for strain rate dependence
through the VP flag and the use of linear or logarithmic interpolation will be presented. On the second day, attention is devoted to anisotropic material modeling in LS-DYNA where we focus on *MAT_036, *MAT_037 and *MAT_133. A practical example will show the effect of anisotropic modeling for the correct description of strain fields as well as its advantages and disadvantages compared to typical isotropic modeling.

The course will take place from 9-11 a.m. (CET) on two consecutive days.

Day 1

  • Isotropic Modeling: *MAT_024, *MAT_081, *MAT_251

Day 2

  • Anisotropic Modeling: *MAT_036, *MAT_037, *MAT_133
